"Never too old, never too sick, never too bad,
never too late to start from scratch and begin again."-BIKRAM CHOUDHURY
Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury is the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of IndiaTM. Born in Calcutta in 1946, Bikram began Yoga at the age of five with Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Paramanhasa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi, founder of the Self Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles). Bikram practiced Yoga four to six hours a day at Ghosh's College of Physical Education in Calcutta, and at the age of thirteen, he won the National India Yoga contest. He was undefeated for three years. Bikram arrived in the United States in 1973 at the invitation of President Nixon. He quickly became the foremost yoga teacher in the west, helping millions of students worldwide through his school in Beverly Hills and at over 600 affiliates schools worldwide.
Bikram's Yoga is a demanding series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises. Each posture is sequenced specifically to work synergistically and cumulatively, strengthening every muscle, ligaments and joints in the body. Yoga builds strength, endurance and flexibility, balancing the body and mind, bringing the same practice even when you're outside the yoga room. The sequence also uses the method of compression of the internal organs using the tourniquet effect which stops the blood from flowing in the compressed area and once released, brings oxygenated blood to the organs, revitalizing and rejuvenating it. Thus, flushing out the cardiovascular system and stimulating the endocrine and nervous systems as well. Giving you that glow coming from the inside not just the outside, one then becomes ageless and forever young. In addition, the series helps improve skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control, increasing mental clarity and reduces stress significantly.
